A Brief Explanation
I never really understood what Dadaism was until I heard a recent news article where an artist had attempted to destroy (or perhaps just deface) Marcell Duchamp's Fountain. The incident forced me to examine whether I considered Fountain art or not. As it turned out (after processing the question for a few days), I not only came to realize that I certainly do feel that Duchamp's work is legitimate art (even though I don't particularly enjoy it), but that I am actually a Dadaist myself. I had no idea previously, but after reflecting on my work and my aesthetic preferences, there is no doubt.
I have always felt like I am more of a facilitator than artist or designer. In fact, I feel that it's an obligation of aesthetically minded individuals to facilitate those who are not so inclined to realize the many opportunities that exist to see beauty. If anything, I excel at seeing beauty where it isn't apparent. That is my basis for the work on The Directive. Though some of these projects are completely fabricated by me, the over-arching theme here, is the recognition of something aesthetically pleasing where it might have otherwise been overlooked.
This is neither a graphic design nor art portfolio. It is a display case for different beautiful things that I have collected. Some of these things I've been lucky enough to be a part of creating, and some I've just been happy to find and recognize as noteworthy. The projects and items collected here may seem random and unrelated, but somehow I feel that they are connected, and that is enough of a relationship for me. In essence, I'm merely assembling these items hoping that a cohesive unit can be formed. I suppose it is up to you, the viewer, to determine whether I have in-fact acheived anything here, or not.
Either way, thank you for taking the time to look.
