About This Project
Lockjaw is my absolute first finished typeface. It may very well be the most useless font ever made, since the only suitable use I have found for it is to display the name of the font itself. Nevertheless I am proud of the fact that I went through the process of building a font. It was an extremely enjoyable process, and yeilded an ambivalent relationship with the typeface it produced.
Lockjaw was built using sliced up pieces of Palatino layed over a Helvetica Bold grid. It has a full set of upper and lower case characters, numbers and even a limited selection of punctuation. I originally intended to make this font available for download, but I hesitate because I know some day I'll come across some high school kid's death metal band and they will have an entire website layed out using the font and I'll have an aneurysm. I'm still deciding on whether I should make the vector file available (which would ensure that no one would try to set large blocks of type with it) or whether I should just hold onto this typeface and not let it out of my site, knowing the potential destruction it could cause.
